My mind is blown. Strangers from all over the COUNTRY contributed miles to help Monika feel supported and encouraged. This world, and the people in it continue to surprise and inspire me.

Thank you all for your support, and dedication.

Monika, get well soon… Next time you run a race, I’d like to join you… I might even be able to keep up!

Hey guys! I’ve been a bad blogger this week, cause I’ve been so busy, but I wanted to remind everyone that miles for monika officially ends/ended on sunday @ 11:59 pm. I’m going to close the count for miles on MONDAY night, so while Monday’s miles don’t count, you’ll have a bit more time to retroactively count them and send them in. The full Miles for Monika report will be posted Monday night! Get those last miles in, guys! Thanks a ton!

Hey hey hey…

How is it possible that after Spring Break, I feel even a bit more rushed/stressed/behind than before!?

Maybe it’s because I, like many other teachers, have lofty goals for my breaks, but when the time comes… just can’t manage to get off my butt and do all the things I set out to do. (Can my teachers say, “Amen”?!?)

Anyway, Friday was a great official finale to Spring Break, as my hubs works from home (Cuteness Check!), there was a Battlestar Galactica marathon all day (Nerd Check!), we went to Rosa’s for dinner, (Foodie Check!), and it was the SERIES finale of the aforementioned Battlestar Galactica Friday night… (Super Sad Nerd Check!)

Do any of my fellow bloggers understand what I mean when I say, that I don’t really like going back to “recap” stuff from several days ago?? I mean, I didn’t take the time to mention it when it happened, so, it probably isn’t interesting enough to bother with now, right?

So, for the weekend, I’ll say… we went to Lowes… which is always fun in Spring… and ummmmm, we ate some pizza which was really good (chicken, spinich, feta, sun dried tomatos, etc) OH, OH! and I went to Chris’s kitten/crumpet/kitcat/catie/cate’s 1st birthday party!! And went back out and did a little karaoke on Saturday night with the grown ups who love that little one so much!

I suppose that’s it for now… Oh, and we’re at 456 for MONIKA!!! Can we make 600 by Sunday night, when MFM officially closes???? Please don’t stop now! We can do it!

If you’re visiting my site directly, and not via email or an rss reader, you might not be able to see the little ticker over there ——————-> but, it says, that we’ve collected 267 miles for Monika so far!! I heard from her this evening, and she is recovering from surgery and can’t WAIT to get back out there and move again. I’m so glad and grateful that she is home, and feeling pretty darn well, all things considered.

Here is her post op blog, stop by and show her some post surgery love! She’s the one we’re doing this for, so don’t be shy!

Anyway, so, yesterday was day 3 of spring break. I watched a little of season 1 of Sex and the City (SATC), as well as took a big bite out of episode 1 of The Tudors… I don’t think I’m quite ready to weigh in on either of these yet, so I’ll hold my tongue for now.

On Wednesday, I had the immense PLEASURE of visiting a gal’s favorite doctor, so after all THAT was done, I decided to treat myself to a starbucks beverage.

Now, I’ve been thinking, and I’ve been saying it’s been 6 months since my last starbucks drink, but thinking about it now, it might have been much longer… I’m thinking last spring sometime… So,

Everyone has been talking about this Vanilla Roobios latte, and I do love tea, but it WAS a hot Texas day, so I really wanted something iced.

I pulled up to the drive through, and after some deliberation (I really wanted my iced soy chai…) I ordered “a grande iced soy roobios latte”… now, come to find out that this drink isn’t even “possible” but, the barista simply replies…

“Sorry, all out of Roobios, and fresh out of Latte”

(to which I laughed, because latte isn’t a “thing” and he’s obviously one of THOSE people)

He said, “Okay, I’ll tell you what. You pull up, I’ll give you some tea, and take your money. How does that sound?”

Sigh…

“Sure thing, hehe”

He proceeded to hand me an insulated cup… and I said,

“Oh, sorry, I asked for that iced.”

To which he replied,

“Okay, well, this doesn’t COME iced… it isn’t possible. It is a brewed tea, and made with 200 degree water in order to brew the tea, so it isn’t possible to be iced.”

“Can’t you, um, just give me a cup of ice? I’ll pour it over the ice myself… it’s really no big deal. *smile, smile*”

He then opens the insulated cup, and OUT ON THE WINDOW LEDGE, pours most of the tea over a MASSIVE cup full to the brim with ice, where of course, it will not all fit, and then says, “Here, I’ll just give you both of these…”

After about 1 sip, I realize how much this drink sucks, not only because it clearly wasn’t brewed properly, but it was also totally NOT soy. I don’t even mind that this drink shouldn’t be iced, but just TELL me that, because if you had, I would have just ordered my chai in the first place… don’t just disregard the “iced” portion of my order because I’m obviously too dumb to have chosen my words properly.

Truth be told, I laughed about it, and I really was NOT mad at the guy, he was having a rough time (he also went off at one point about “these people” who keep ordering frappucinos like they “think it’s coffee”- “I’m like their DAIRY QUEEN!”), and I make it a point to be nice to ever server that I possibly can… but it was still weird. :)

Today, Day 4 of spring break, I got up and met my mom for lunch! We went to Houston’s and I had a Veggie burger, with some of their AWESOME fries, and part of a delicious apple-caramelly-pecan treat!

After, my bro met up with us, and we hung out for a while… good times.

Tonight, I did my second stride run of my 10k training plan, and I think I got the hang of tracking it properly! I basically used the lap function to track each 100m section, and it worked very well. The first one out of the gate was pretty slow! 31 seconds, but by the 4th one, I pulled it out in 23 seconds! THAT was cool.

That’s about it for tonight…

A special thanks to some of my fellow bloggers who are contributing or posting about Monika’s miles!

Day 2 of spring break was actually kinda boring.

I surfed for a while, went to the store, changed out all the cat litter (we have 3 litter boxes!!), did the dishes, SCRUBBED the stove/microwave, and then I went out for my run.

It was the first run of my 10k training plan, and WOW! SuperTom from Runner’s Lounge.com (which is a super awesome site, by the way) helped me tweak my plan to perfection, and introduced me to stride runs- which I will be doing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Basically, the stride run is where you accelerate for about 30% of the total distance, hold the accelerated pace for 40% of the distance, and then decelerate for the last 30% of the distance.

Wow! Long runs, or just regular jogging runs are great, and make me feel healthy… but they are completely different from any type of speedy run. This stride run made me feel STRONG… And it made me feel fast. (I know I’m not REALLY fast, but it sure made me feel good. :) )

Anyway, I rounded off the night with a trip to blockbuster, that lasted a solid 1.5 hours, but that’s another story. hehe. I’m looking for a TV on DVD to watch, so I picked up the first episodes of the first seasons of Sex and the City, Dexter, and The Tudors. Here’s hoping that I really like 1 or more.
