Hey gang,

It is red ribbon week at school this week, and so we’re all dressing up every day. So far, we’ve had Hat day, Hippie day, and luckily, tomorrow is PAJAMA day!!! (Adult footie PJs anyone?) At the end of the week, I’ll post all of my classic looks, but for now, you’ll just have to wonder… Or go find my flickr… cause they’re totally there. haha.

Anyway, I’ve had some GREAT eats this week, that I wanted to post about! My girl Amber mentioned how TOUGH it is to eat right, and boy do I know it. Just today, I started out great, and had some yogurtoats (made with Liberte yogurt! YUM!) and water…

Lunch came around, and my girls were heading to sonic… you KNOW I ate some sonic.

All that to say, I know how tough it can be to make good choices!!

Anyway, I came up with a quick list of some tips I strive to follow when ever I can!

1. Eat breakfast… Yogurt is EASY and can be really good for you. I love putting rolled oats in my yogurt, it makes me happy. I look for high protein, and a little fat to help me stay full for longer. I think that the whole carbohydrate of the oats makes it last even longer… Gooooood stuff.

2. Get fresh leafy greens in WHENEVER you can… and as much as you can tolerate!
I’ve been known to cram up to 2 cups of fresh leafy greens on my daily sandwich. It is good for you, and it keeps ya “movin” if you know what I mean. Suck it up, and eat your LEAVES!

3. Fight the urge to grab what is easy. I’ve realized that the 20 minutes it takes me to get my keys, get to the taco bell, wait in line, and get home isn’t actually any faster than me just making something at home…

4. Try something new…
Wondering what that orange soup is up there? It is PUMPKIN GINGER SOUP! We gave it a try tonight with toasted pine nut couscous (don’t be fooled, it took 5 minutes to make, and came from a box…) and I have to say, it was one of the most complex things I’ve tried in a long time… But trying new things, at home… healthy things can be a great way to make eating home cooked stuff not feel so monotonous. (any body get in the package of refrigerator tortellini and jar of sauce rotation?? UGH.)

5. Every choice counts… so you had a coke for breakfast. Who cares? Have water for lunch! Did you cave, and have chick-fil-a 3 times last week? Have a salad tonight!
It is so easy to get down about a bad food choice and use that as an excuse to have another bad food choice… We don’t actually have to do that, ya know. :D

What do you think of these tips? Any you follow to keep you on track? :D
See you tomorrow!

Our school carnival was sooooooooooo cute! Those kids cracked me up. :D

Luckily (or so I hope), they videotaped the performances, and eventually, there will be VIDEOS of my performances here. I did a solo of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift, and all my peeps did the Glee song. hehe. So cute.

Anyway, this weekend  was weird. I’ve been snippy, and I’ve been in pain for several days. I have a canker sore in my mouth on my cheek and I also have a pea sized knot in my cheek right on my jaw line. I’ve had a wicked headache, and it has just SUCKED!

Anyway, I hate not blogging sweet happy fun funs, but I’m just not feeling it. I’ve been pretty absent from twitter and facebook (considering the depth of my addiction) and I’m pretty glad that it is just about time to turn off this beautiful laptop of mine.

Comments make you happy, right?? Throw a girl a bone, and leave me one too. I could use a pick me up!

What do you do to combat a funky mood??

PS. I love you CHRIS COOL, and I MISS YOUR FACE!

Man, it has been GLOOMY for many of the last several days! Lots of rain, lots of clouds, lots of  BLAH.

I started today with something new, and completely AWESOME.

Liberte 6 grain yogurt.

This is a milk based yogurt from canada that also contains 6 whole grains… if you know me, you know that I have long been in love with my yogurt-oats, and raw oats in my yogurt is one of my favorite things of all time. So today, I had the raspberry flavor, and I have to say… that with no compensation from liberte, this is one of the very best yogurts I have EVER had. The grains are chewy, and provide such a great texture. They are plump, and not crumbs, but are full flavored chunks of grainy goodness. The yogurt itself is not overly sweet, and is not to thick… (sometimes the texture of greek yogurt is too much for me) all in all, with stats like these:

I really like it and I will DEFINITELY buy it again. :D

My full breakfast consisted of the liberte yogurt, some grapes, and a home brewed coffee from my spanish stash. (love you, lola!) I’ve been sweetening my coffee with a little agave instead of sugar lately, and I have to say that I don’t miss the white stuff a bit… :D

I had an awesome lunch today, including a turkey, escarole (aka endive), and deli mustard sandwhich which was freaking perfect. So perfect, in fact that it was well in my belly before I managed to take a photograph of it.

Escarole or Endive was on sale at the grocery store, and was exceptionally fluffy and beautiful… I couldn’t say no. :D

My snacks for the rest of the day ROCKED, including 10 candy corns, a babybell cheddar, and a piece of this glorious concoction:

You’re reading that right. Peanut Butter and GINGER.

Think about your favorite flavors from a perfectly prepared thai peanut sauce. This candy is sweet, but not too sweet, strong, but not too strong, and savory… but not in a way that invades the sweetness. A PERFECT sweet for this ginger girl, and long time Reed’s Ginger products lover.

I’m totally hitting the sack now, because I am EXHAUSTED… sleep well!!

Do you ever have a workout that you just feel completely, overwhelmingly proud of?? Even if it wasn’t particularly inventive or unique?

Thats how I felt after tonight’s workout. During the biggest loser, I busted it on the elliptical and during all of the commercials I did compound strength moves. That lasted for a clock hour, and it was AWESOME. :)

I wrapped it up with a O.N.E. coconut water, which, I love with a passion. YUM.

Today began with a need for hazelnutty chocolaty goodness. I shamelessly enjoyed this packet of hot chocolate instead of coffee this morning, and it was AWESOME.

So, at work, we’re having our big carnival on friday, and my department-mate and I are filling balloons with slips of paper representing coupons and prizes that local businesses donated for our booth! We’re excited about the chance to raise some funds for the special ed department, but surprisingly, shoving slips of paper into teeny tiny water balloons is NOT the most exciting thing ever.

Also, at this event, my work posse and I are recreating “don’t stop believing” from Glee, and I’ll be performing a solo song in our school’s version of American Idol made up of teachers. We hope the kids will be entertained. haha :D I promise that if videos are taken, I’ll post them here. :D

I’m gonna wrap this one up a bit early, because I need to send some comment love to a bunch of my new blogging buddies. (including Nicci and Kristen!) :D

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO MY GIRL AMBER, who is taking on the 30 day shred! I am so proud of her! She is amazing. :D

(in case you can’t tell, I’m a big fan of sharing the linky blog love… I challenge  you to shout out your faves in your next post! :D )

Rocktober stats: 1 hour circuit training

Hey, hey!
I have to admit, tonight is such a great example of how getting out there is sometimes the BEST thing you can do. I was in an “okay” mood tonight, but I was NOT feeling going to tennis lessons… at ALL. I felt a little dizzy… a little lazy… a little leaden, and I just went because I promised my fellow N00b tennis lesson buddy that I wouldn’t bail.

I was rewarded with the BEST tennis practice! I did really well, and most importantly, I made a real mind body connection, which is very difficult for me. I’m not the most coordinated gal in the world, but this made me pretty darn happy.

Anyway, today was otherwise a pretty darn good day. :D We’re reading bridge to terabithia in my class, which is one of my favorite kids books… :’(

And the highlight of my day was not the ice cream treat that I had at work, but was instead my almonds… I thought the ice cream was kinda yucky… it was this buttered pecan blue bell thing, and I was STARVING, but it wasn’t too great. My almonds, on the other hand were AWESOME.

In the midst of my Rocktober Challenge, I’ve been faced with the truth that I am NOT drinking enough water. I have the best intentions, but I’m not a big drinker anyway… It is totally normal for me to go to dinner and have 3 sips of water throughout the whole night. It is EXCEPTIONALLY rare for me to need a refill. So even though my kanteen is always by my side… I am just not drinking enough water. So, today, I renewed my decision to get 2 of my 27 oz kanteens down in a day, knowing that the rest of my water will come from other food sources like fruits and veggies, as well as anything else I may drink. So, in an effort to inspire, I declare, “DRINK MORE WATER!” It is one of the easiest things I can do that will make a difference in my skin, attitude, waistline, and overall health.

Lastly, I am so excited to have found a blogging neighbor! Nicci has a wonderful blog full of vegetarian meal ideas, and healthy living tips, and we live in the same town! Seriously, her blog is awesome, so stop by and give her some love. :D

I’m off to bed! Have a wonderful evening! :D
