There is good stuff in this post ALL the way through, so read it all! haha!

Today’s eats included a couple of adventurous options… (read: we are almost totally out of food)

I started the day with an emergency banana and a Doctor Kracker Pumpkin Seed and Cheddar flatbread… (looks yummy, doesn’t it? keep reading!) I topped this bad boy with a serving of whipped cream cheese which REALLY made me happy. 60 calories VERY well spent! :D

I also did something that I rarely do, which is drink about 250ish calories with breakfast in the form of 2 cups of fruit juice that is left over (and otherwise going to be wasted) from thanksgiving. I don’t drink a ton of juice, but I was thinking of getting starbucks, or a giant coke today, *GASP* and figured, at least fruit juice is a LITTLE bit better than that… I’ll just convince myself that that pulp made a dent in my fiber needs. :)

For lunch, I had my second random meal, since, again, we’re TOTALLY out of food. :)

Untitled

I had a grown up lunchable, comprised of a few slices of deli turkey on top of 8 Doctor Kracker Cherry Semolina Culinary Crisps! (VERY YUM… think THOSE look yummy too?? just get ready!) I also ate that colby jack stick which makes that about a 250 calorie lunch to offset my over 500 calorie breakfast. :)

At about 3, I scarfed a clementine… and debated having the pictured banana, but didn’t… I got so busy with finishing up work, parent phone calls, and getting to the grocery store.

note my red and green gmail theme! holla!

For dinner Daron and I caved and had Taco Bell… (At least I know @ChicRunner and @CNicRun won’t judge me… :D )

FITNESS

Tonight, I’m going to whittle my middle while watching BL.

**I hope I teased you well with my yummy Doctor Kracker snacks! One of my bloggie besties, Nicci told me about these crispy yums, and with one teensy email, I was rewarded with a giant box to try, taste, review, and GIVEAWAY!

That’s right, Giveaway time again! Keep your eyes open on Wednesday evening or Thursday Morning for my Doctor Kracker review, and Giveaway information! :D

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Last but not least, my girl Nicci, who I mentioned above created an award for ladies who are doing what needs to be done to be fit and wonderful.

Just to add a little prestige to this bad boy, I’m going to bestow it to 5 lovely ladies who are recently/regularly/newly/consistently committed to becoming better!

1. Chris – She recently recommitted to her fitness routine, and 30 days of fitness, go YOU!

2. Heather – a constant inspiration on twitter and bloggie world

3. 4. and 5. Amber, Elizabeth, and Sarah who you know, if you watched the VLOG on Tuesday, will be running ROCK AND ROLL Dallas too! :D

being on track feels good

November 30, 2009

Today was a GREAT back on track day for me…

I hope it was for you too! :D

Accountability is good for me, so I’m going to be posting most of my eats for the next couple of days. :)

I started off this morning with one of Angela’s delicious Chi Glo Bars and a clemintine!

I do love chia seeds and have had them many times before, but when they go all fuzzy I have GOT to get them out of my teeth!! :D

Untitled

My lunch was some left over thai, which I wanted to get some more value out of before throwing out… I had it with the regular steamed white rice from the restaurant, and had about 1/2 cup of rice with about 1/2 cup of a yellow curry/coconut milk/chicken/spicy deliciousness EXPLOSION!!

Man, I love this stuff… it is MUCH yummier than it looks.

Untitled

I also received a tub of chex mix from a friend today, and I had a handful down, before I even knew it! I quickly tightened that lid and sealed it up! The handful pictured is NOT the one I ate, cause it was gone before I remembered to take a photo!!

Untitled

I snacked on an apple, 8 almonds, and a blueberry oikos, because I needed something in my belly before tennis tonight.

Untitled

Yes, you read that right… I had tennis tonight… practice 7 of 8… the last one is WEDNESDAY…

I’m looking forward to being done, because my focus has to be on getting a great foundation established on my runs. I think when it comes around again in Jan/Feb, it will be a great cross training activity, but right now getting home at 8 is just an extra stress.

FITNESS

So, before tennis, I set out to run a short 2 miles, and all was not well. I simply did NOT have enough fuel for that run. At 1.75 miles, I stopped to walk the last .25 because my stomach HURT with hunger, and I felt like I could pass out from the need for fuel.

I had just enough time to run to the grocery store and buy a bunch of EMERGENCY BANANAS!

Yup. I avoided the chips and candy, and got something that would REALLY make me feel better. :D

Untitled

For dinner, I had a couple of chicken tamales, which hubby steamed for me, topped with some of Amy’s Chili (my favorite bean chili!)

I took a picture, but it looked to gross to post. haha. trust it was yummy. :D

Here is how I ended up calorically… A little low today.

Food calories consumed – 1,681

Exercise calories burned – 491

Net calories so far today – 1,189

I’ve got a little surprise for you in my next post… well, for those of you who liked it the last time I did it… haha.

Hey gang…

I hope you all had an amazing thanksgiving (if you’re in America!) ;) And I hope you’re making the most of this holiday season. :)

I was supposed to be “off” for thanksgiving break, but as could be expected, vacation was spent being super busy, and bustling about in a holiday stupor. My MIL came in town on Wednesday and I’ve been go, go, go, ever since!

turkey

On Thursday, we went to my Grams house for thanksgiving dinner, which was absolutely delish. I had been looking forward to having a holiday meal in moderation, which I managed to do pretty well… (I enjoyed some turkey, potatoes, yams, green beans, cranberry sauce-which I lovingly prepared, and fruit salad) but I have to confess… that is when things went a little wrong.

Somehow, with company staying at our house, I went a little food crazy… and for pretty much every meal except thanksgiving dinner, I overate, and threw all caution to the wind. I haven’t eaten this badly in a LONG, LONG time. I might even say that I was binging for the past few days, and it has been a LONG time since my emotional eating was this out of control.

In the interest of full disclosure, lemme tell you about my crazy eats this week. :-/

  • Wed. Dinner- Fuddruckers turkey burger with fries
  • Thurs. Lunch- Thanksgiving food… and pie.
  • Fri. Lunch- Urban Crust pizza with my mom (a fire baked pizza with chicken, mozzarella, sundried tomatoes, caramelized onions, and truffle oil)
  • Fri. Dinner-Thai food including a thai tea, spring roll, lettuce wrap, and a coconut milk/chicken/yellow curry dish FOLLOWED by a spot of frozen yogurt @ yogurt story.
  • Sat. Lunch- Chicken enchiladas (no cheese) and tomatillo sauce from Blue Goose Cantina
  • Sat. Dinner- Chicken Express Chicken strips bonanza and a barrel of authentic southern sweet tea
  • Sun. Lunch- A piece of fried fish and mac and cheese from a crappy fast food sea food place…

To top it all off, I didn’t lift ONE finger or foot, as I’d planned in an effort to counter those calories…

THIS was when I finally went, WOA. STOP.

as american as...

I have to say, friends, that I definitely buckled under some of the stresses and emotions that crop up during the holiday season.

I felt overwhelmed, tired, stressed, and alone… even while surrounded by my wonderful family and friends

Have you ever had a tumble off the proverbial wagon, that made you think you couldn’t get back on?

I’m so glad that I’ve learned a few things over the past year. Things that make me encouraged, and not defeated.

1. I am not the product of one bad decision.

2. It is NEVER too late, or too hard, or not worth it to make one tiny little choice that puts you back on track. (I’m reminded every time I look at my wrist)

3. I have to be kind to myself. So, I made some poor choices, and I gave into some negative thoughts and feelings… but I can DO ANYTHING… I have to love myself, and support my self through the tough times too.

It is easy to love yourself and feel good when you’re doing everything right. It’s a lot tougher to love yourself, when you feel like you’re your own greatest obstacle.

I’m feeling a lot better, and have made a couple of committments to help me stay on track for the last month of the Holiday Challenge!

To start things off, I registered tonight for something special…

   logo

What better way to reclaim the promises I’ve made to myself than by starting training this week!! I’ve been looking forward to training for a couple of weeks, and I’m so excited that it starts this week! This should be awesome (and hard) but really rewarding.

Also, I’m going to count calories via Lose It! again for a while… (this is the iphone app which has recently launched a website too!)

(If you’re on loseit! add me as a friend! The email address that I use there is kelseytoney @ gmail.com)

Anyway, I think this blog post was long enough. :) I’ll talk to you guys tomorrow. :D

lunch with a kindred spirit

November 9, 2009

Sunday, I had the awesome pleasure of meeting miss Nicole of NiccisNiftyEats!

We met at an awesome cafe which is attached to a great whole foods store in our area. Both of us have shopped here before, but never ventured into the cafe.

As their menu is online, I had a chance to decide what I wanted before I arrived.

IMG_0036 IMG_0035

I had a turkey and basil pesto Panini (with no cheese) which was also loaded with veggies like tomatoes, artichokes, and spinach. The bread was really, REALLY good.

IMG_0037

I also enjoyed a cup of carrot juice!

IMG_0039

As I was snapping a shot of my eats, I looked up and smiled as I saw this:

:D

I knew we’d hit it right off.

I’d never met Nicole before, but have thoroughly enjoyed reading her blog. When I found out we lived in the same town… I knew a meet up was in order. :D

IMG_0040

After escaping lunch on the beautiful patio without being stung by one of the many bees, we retreated inside and checked out some of the artwork on display in the cafe. :D

IMG_0044

As we meandered through the market, I spotted my bff… silk holiday flavors… this is pumpkin spice, but I’m sure I’ll kill several silk nogs before the end of the season. :D

I also picked up some amazing grass, and almond butter packs,

and Nicole and I decided to be BRAVE and try synergy KOMBUCHA!

What a beautiful glow!

November 8, 2009

A few weeks ago, I got the amazing news from Caitlin at healthy tipping point, that my submission to her Operation Beautiful site had been selected for use in the book!

Caitlin, one of my favorite healthy living bloggers, started a movement earlier this year with the founding of her site Operation Beautiful.com. Operation Beautiful has a simple premise. Women can be hard on themselves, and hard on other women as well. In an effort to cultivate a culture of positive self esteem and self talk, Caitlin posted a note.

(Photo courtesy of Caitlin B. of Operation Beautiful.com)

In a public place, she left a note for another woman to find, and told her that she was beautiful. A small gesture, but one that allows women to build each other up, and not tear one another down. When she was got word about Operation Beautiful being picked up for a book, she asked the blogging community to submit for consideration in the volume.

I am so excited to have been selected and I was even more excited to find that I was also selected by Caitlin as one of the 19 prize winners too! I can not WAIT for the book to come out, and for you my readers and friends to see my submission! :D

The other part of this entry, is about the great PRIZE that I won, for my submission! As lucky winner #6 I won a Variety Pack of Glo Bars from Angela at Glo Bakery!!

Angela sent me a box containing 11 Glo Bars! It contained:

  • 6 Refresh Bars (Chocolate Peppermint)
  • 2 Classic (Chunky Peanut Butter)
  • 1 Revive (Dark Chocolate Chunky Peanut Butter)
  • 1 Chi (Chia Seed)
  • 1 Renew (Hemp and Chia)

Review:

Opening the Glo Bar, I was thrilled, because I love the quick and convenient package as much as the next girl! At first bite, I loved that it was softer than the Lunas that I usually eat. The texture was chewy, and chunky, but somehow smooth. The bars aren’t overly sweet, which I really love. I can say that at first, I wasn’t sure about the flavor, but as soon as it was off my tongue, I wanted another bite, and another, and I swear the flavor and taste gets better with every single bite.

You can taste the love that Angela bakes in these bars, and you can also taste the lack of chemically ickiness that is in lots of store bought bars. Incidentally, I didn’t even notice some of the chemical flavors in my other bars, until I tasted these vegan darlings.

I’ve gotten hooked on the Refresh bars (and I’m glad I got mostly those!) but I’ve also enjoyed the Classic and Revive. I had been looking forward to trying one of the more fruity bars, but I’m not complaining. What I received have been totally delish. Now my only worry is how much I’m going to want to keep these babies on hand.

Thanks so much to both Caitlin and Angela!
