Good morning, ATX!

February 11, 2010

Hey guys, It’s a lovely morning in Austin, and apparently a snowy and beautiful morning in my home town, Denton, too!

The three of us teachers, were rousted this morning, earlier than we planned with 3 simultaneous notifications that our district would be closed due to the significant snow!

Meanwhile, we’re down here, NOT having a snow day, ready to go and learn all about special education advancements!

We’re glad to be here, but we would have also been glad to be cuddled up at home, having a snow day. :D

My hubby sent me a photo of the snow, look how beautiful it is there… I really wish I could see it.

The conference promised us all “continental breakfasts” but I was so pleased to wake up and see some actual warm food! I had the vegetarian egg scramble (eggs, peppers, potato), a few strawberries and a slice of pineapple (the honeydew was definitely not edible, unfortunately. It was supposed to be breakfast tacos, but I skimped on the tortillas, and saved the calories for the 2% in my coffee. :D

We’re going to head out to some sessions now, but I’ll be back later with more gut-wrenchingly exciting happenings. :D

I. Love. Breakfast.

Eggs, bacon, pancakes, biscuits, hashbrowns, muffins, you name it- I love it.

So, I was delighted this morning when (after learning that Mi Casita – my new favorite breakfast taco place-was closed) we stopped at Old West Cafe here in Denton.

Wow, it was really, really wonderfully awesome. Comfort food, and full of calories for sure, but man, that was some cookin’ like my grandma made. Made me miss her…and appreciate her. :)

I had a blueberry pancake, 2 scrambled eggs, crispy (THICK) bacon, and fruit salad. The pancake was fluffy, and full of plump, juicy, whole blueberries. The scrambled eggs were… well, scrambled eggs. The bacon was the very best bacon I’ve ever had… ever… and I’ve had my fair share of bacon. :) We were seated quickly, but by the door. It happened to be chilly this morning, which meant it took no time at all for our food to get cold. But the price was right, and the service was friendly… not fussy… but friendly. We’ll definately go back -and wait if we must, for a table away from the door- and chow on this great cafe’s food again.
