Hey, remember that time I made the Rocktober challenge?

Haha…

After being laid out with bronchitis for almost 7 days early in the month, I never fully recovered. I ended up working out about 18 days of the month, which is more than half, but I definitely did NOT make my goal of working out each day of the month.

I did, however, go from 146.6 lbs to 143.6 lbs which means I lost a total of 3 lbs for the month of October. This also means that I have lost a total of 28 lbs!

I was recently made moderator of a National website’s health and fitness board, and I’m pretty excited about out Holiday Challenge that we’re starting there!

The challenge doesn’t require you to be a part of the message board, and anyone can do the challenge… It runs from November 1 to December 31, just long enough to get us through the holiday season!

I’m attaching the excel document on which you can track your progress.

I could explain it all, but frankly, the spreadsheet does a better job than I can write a recap. Basically, you’ll earn points for doing certain healthful things each day, week, or month.

Give it a try! I’ll bet you see a difference!

Here is a link to the google document spreadsheet. You can track them on this form online via your google account, or you may save it to your computer as an excel document, or you may print it out and keep a hard copy.

We made a paper chain last week representing the days until Christmas, people… That isn’t very many days, and is actually quite a lot of pies… Make this holiday season your healthiest yet!

What is your holiday season weakness? Any desire to over come it? ;)

Hooray for October!

I mentioned earlier in the week that I’m ready to kick my fitness into high gear in time for my annual fitness test that is sometime in November. So, I’ve challenged myself to be active for 30 minutes a day for EVERY DAY of October.

Enter…

For me, the Rocktober Challenge means that I won’t be counting the incidental walking around work, or taking the stairs, or parking at the back of the parking lot. This challenge is about taking 30 minutes out of every day to move my body and improve my fitness with INTENTION.

I would love for you to participate in the Challenge too! Based on your personal level of fitness, this challenge can mean whatever you want it to. So, make it your own, but I challenge YOU to push yourself this month, and make a difference in both your body, and how you feel about yourself. :)

I also want to thank those of you who contacted me to let me know that you’re still reading! I’m glad to be back on the blogging bandwagon, and it is a supplemental part of this Challenge for me to blog everyday as well. (so be ready for a lot bit more Kelsey than you may be used to… at least since last year’s challenge. :)

Well, friends, check me out! Two posts in 48 hours! That is what I’m talking about!

I just wanted to write a quick post about some things that I’ve been planning for myself.

 IMG_2851edit

1. Tomorrow marks the beginning of my n00b tennis lessons. That’s right, I’m taking tennis 101. The way I see it, it will be a good workout, and it would be pretty darn adorable to be able to play with my hubs. So, I’m going to give it a shot and see if I like it. :D

(tennis doesn’t look like this—>)

2. Sometime after tennis is over, I think I’m going to go ahead and get a month’s membership at the yoga hut. I visited on Labor Day and it was a wonderful (albeit 3 hour) experience, and I can’t wait to go back. IMG_3040

3. This month was “no scale September” for me, which means that I haven’t looked at the number on the scale for a whole month! I’m actually looking forward to getting up there on October 1st after a whole month of calorie tracking and being pretty active. I’ve been maintaining throughout the whole summer with only a small fluctuation following my trip to Spain.

4. I’m about ready to start my 30 day challenge again! (who knows, maybe it will be an annual thing) The challenge includes blogging once a day, and previously doing the 30 day shred everyday for 30 days. So, the question will be do I try to do the shred everyday except tennis lessons and make it an October challenge? Or do I make myself do the shred and tennis? Who knows. I’m still ironing out the kinks.

5. I’ve been a reading fool since graduating lately and I’m really getting back on track with my 25 books in 2009 challenge that I took on in February. I’m really enjoying the Percy Jackson series (just finished the second one), and I look forward to cracking open the new Dan Brown (don’t gag ;) ) as well as the 2nd in the Sookie Stackhouse series.

6. Running! I am still doing some soul searching about running. As you may know, I never ended up running that 10k that I was training for in July. I’m not sure if it was lack of dedication, lack of fitness, or both, but somehow, it just didn’t feel right. In other news, running is a source of relaxation and reflection for me, and running on a training plan and squeezing out miles really stresses me out. If I can go out and run 3 miles with a smile on my face vs.. going out and striving for 5 and hurting myself/getting mad/resenting my runs/stressing about numbers… maybe that should be my goal.

That is about it for now. Gonna nod off reading some of The Titan’s Curse, and getting ready for another Monday! Leave me a comment and let me know you’ve not all abandoned me! haha. Goodnight!

I wanted to quickly add that my google readers did miss out on the pictures posted at the end of my Bloomin’ 4 Mile race report, so if you wanna see them all, you’ll need to actually come to the site. :)

So, I have 1 month until I take my amazing summer trip. This trip is going to be about 1/8 amazing work for my professional career, 1/8 harry potter fan girl ness, 1/4 trip to paris, and 1/2 immersion into Spanish culture and joy at seeing my lola.

I’ve decided that since the first part of the trip will be in Alicante, on the mediterranean coast, and I’ll have to wear a swimsuit, I’ll go a bit extra with my training for the next month.

I hereby PLEDGE to continue running 3 days per week, and to also do 5 days per week of the 30 day shred video. I can split them up however I want, and all of that, but I WILL do it. This is a good accountability test! I need you guys to help keep me on track! :D

The count down has finally begun! I’m sooooooooooooooo excited I can hardly stand it! :D

Spain, here we come!

I’ve got a couple quick things to say, before getting down to business.

1) I’ll find out about my Dr. visits tomorrow or Monday, and I’ll certainly keep you all informed.

2) I’ve been interviewed by one of my fave stomping grounds, thenest.com!
Here is a link to the full interview, let me know what you think! And thanks, Anni! :D

3) According to my feed data, I’ve got over 50 subscribers! That is awesome, and I hope you’ll all say hi!

Speaking of getting involved, I’ve got a big announcement… Check it out below!

Calling all runners/joggers/walkers!!

MilesForMonika

Feel free to copy this, and add it to your blog!

My friend Monika is an amazing athlete. She is a huge inspiration to me, and encouraged me to start/keep running -which has subsequently changed my life!

She is tough as nails, positive, strong, and passionate. She encourages people all the time, and is constantly pushing me to work harder -just by being her.

She is CERTAINLY not gonna let a little thing like a golf ball sized cyst in her chest slow her down. She’s taking it easy, and will have surgery on or around March 16th.

Monika is a machine! Regularly pulling out 10+ milers, and at awesome paces. She recently won a nike+ challenge by running 181 miles in the first 2 months of this year.

That is the inspiration for this virtual collection of miles… I’m hoping that with all of the runners, joggers, walkers and nesties, bloggers, and friends together, we can do something really cool.

I’m challenging you to “donate” your miles to Monika. If you’re running on a treadmill, doing roadwork, running a race, do it while thinking about how lucky we all are to be out moving our bodies. Even the strongest among us, like Monika, can have to hit the bench for a little while. Run those miles… not taking one step for granted.

All you have to do to participate is email me and tell me how many miles (of those that you ran that day/week) you’d like to add to the tally. For example, if you run a 10k, let me know, and I’ll throw those 6.2 miles into the pot.

If Monika can run 181 miles in 2 months, I know that all of us together can run 181 miles for Monika in 2 WEEKS. Thats right, I want us, as a group to run/walk/jog 181 miles for Monika between March 16th-March 29th.

The best part of this challenge, is that you’re already logging the miles anyway!
Once you start tallying up your miles, just email the total to me, and I’ll add them to the running total. I just know that we can log 181 miles for Monika, to show her that we’re all behind her, and are keeping the roads warm for her… Because before we know it, she’ll be back out there passing all of us, and putting us to shame once again.

Please email or comment to let me know that you’ll be particpating, and PLEASE repost this information on your blogs! I don’t want to let this girl down!! :D
