Day 2 of spring break was actually kinda boring.

I surfed for a while, went to the store, changed out all the cat litter (we have 3 litter boxes!!), did the dishes, SCRUBBED the stove/microwave, and then I went out for my run.

It was the first run of my 10k training plan, and WOW! SuperTom from Runner’s Lounge.com (which is a super awesome site, by the way) helped me tweak my plan to perfection, and introduced me to stride runs- which I will be doing on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Basically, the stride run is where you accelerate for about 30% of the total distance, hold the accelerated pace for 40% of the distance, and then decelerate for the last 30% of the distance.

Wow! Long runs, or just regular jogging runs are great, and make me feel healthy… but they are completely different from any type of speedy run. This stride run made me feel STRONG… And it made me feel fast. (I know I’m not REALLY fast, but it sure made me feel good. :) )

Anyway, I rounded off the night with a trip to blockbuster, that lasted a solid 1.5 hours, but that’s another story. hehe. I’m looking for a TV on DVD to watch, so I picked up the first episodes of the first seasons of Sex and the City, Dexter, and The Tudors. Here’s hoping that I really like 1 or more.

Spring Break: Day 1

March 16, 2009

Hey gang!

I had a pretty lazy day, all things considered… but it was NICE!

I started out my morning with some granola from MixMyGranola.com, and I have to say… It is pretty awesome!

When I got it the other day, I first noticed the awesome packaging!

Tinni liked the outer packaging much better…

I named my mix “Super Yum Yum Fun Mix” (Daron’s was “Nommy Nom Nom Mix”, hehe).
If you’ve not heard about it, it is a site, where you essentially create your own granola, just the way you like it! My granola contains:

I have to admit, while I LOVE ginger, it was a really bad move in this granola mix. I will be eating this in yogurt, and occasionally with milk, and the ginger was just too intense. It clouded all of the other flavors. :( But all in all, a very good bowl.

Since hubs works from home on Mondays and Fridays, we were able to hang out today… which I think I probably enjoyed more than he did. :D

I lounged about, pretty much until tonight, when I whipped out Jillian’s new DVD, No More Trouble Zones, and I have to say, it was TOUGH! I got through most of it, but not like the models all the time… I sweat like a BEAST!

In other AMAZING news, we’re already at 64.5 miles for Monika!!! I’m just hoping that people continue to send their information and miles in, so that we keep it up, and smash our goal to bits! :D

Feel free to leave your Miles here for today… I’ll get ‘em.

Hey guys!

I’ve had a great response to “Miles for Monika” and I really hope we can BLOW our goal miles out of the water! It is going to require help from all of you, though… it really will.

Here is a rundown of the details for you, if you missed it the first time.

  • Any miles that you run/walk/jog/hike (miles earned on your own two feet) count.
  • Feel free to use even miles, or to the nearest tenth. (ex: 2.3 miles)
  • Miles must be clocked between Monday, March 16th (12:00 am) – Sunday, March 29th (11:59 pm)
  • You can report miles daily, weekly, or at the end of the whole fortnight.

There are 3 ways you can report your miles:

  • Either leave your miles in a comment on this blog (this post, or subsequent posts later in the week… it doesn’t matter)
  • Email me your miles: kelsey@kelseytoney.com
  • For my nesties, you can post your miles on the daily c25k/running check in post (If you don’t know what this is… use one of the other two methods) ;)

In semi-related news, I’ve got a clean bill of health from the doctor, which means that I’m starting my 16-week 10k training plan tomorrow! I’ll be posting a summary of my weekly plan/workout journal, so you can follow my progress.

Plus! It’s spring break!!

Bloggers- Please help me out, by reposting the information about Monika’s Miles… I don’t have the reach that some of you other big timers do, so your reposting/linking could make a big difference. :)

I’ll be holding my breath for your miles to start pouring in tomorrow!!

You can check our progress on the Miles for Monika widget on my sidebar—-> Let’s do this!

Thanks! good night!

Here is a button that you can use to post a tiny version of the MFM banner seen above. Just copy and paste it, then remove the 2 Asterisks (one before the “a href” and one before the “img”) and it will link directly to my blog post about the event!

Miles for Monika!

March 12, 2009
I’ve got a couple quick things to say, before getting down to business.

1) I’ll find out about my Dr. visits tomorrow or Monday, and I’ll certainly keep you all informed.

2) I’ve been interviewed by one of my fave stomping grounds, thenest.com!
Here is a link to the full interview, let me know what you think! And thanks, Anni! :D

3) According to my feed data, I’ve got over 50 subscribers! That is awesome, and I hope you’ll all say hi!

Speaking of getting involved, I’ve got a big announcement… Check it out below!

Calling all runners/joggers/walkers!!

MilesForMonika

Feel free to copy this, and add it to your blog!

My friend Monika is an amazing athlete. She is a huge inspiration to me, and encouraged me to start/keep running -which has subsequently changed my life!

She is tough as nails, positive, strong, and passionate. She encourages people all the time, and is constantly pushing me to work harder -just by being her.

She is CERTAINLY not gonna let a little thing like a golf ball sized cyst in her chest slow her down. She’s taking it easy, and will have surgery on or around March 16th.

Monika is a machine! Regularly pulling out 10+ milers, and at awesome paces. She recently won a nike+ challenge by running 181 miles in the first 2 months of this year.

That is the inspiration for this virtual collection of miles… I’m hoping that with all of the runners, joggers, walkers and nesties, bloggers, and friends together, we can do something really cool.

I’m challenging you to “donate” your miles to Monika. If you’re running on a treadmill, doing roadwork, running a race, do it while thinking about how lucky we all are to be out moving our bodies. Even the strongest among us, like Monika, can have to hit the bench for a little while. Run those miles… not taking one step for granted.

All you have to do to participate is email me and tell me how many miles (of those that you ran that day/week) you’d like to add to the tally. For example, if you run a 10k, let me know, and I’ll throw those 6.2 miles into the pot.

If Monika can run 181 miles in 2 months, I know that all of us together can run 181 miles for Monika in 2 WEEKS. Thats right, I want us, as a group to run/walk/jog 181 miles for Monika between March 16th-March 29th.

The best part of this challenge, is that you’re already logging the miles anyway!
Once you start tallying up your miles, just email the total to me, and I’ll add them to the running total. I just know that we can log 181 miles for Monika, to show her that we’re all behind her, and are keeping the roads warm for her… Because before we know it, she’ll be back out there passing all of us, and putting us to shame once again.

Please email or comment to let me know that you’ll be particpating, and PLEASE repost this information on your blogs! I don’t want to let this girl down!! :D
